Coats & jackets

A coat needs to work when you reach, drive or carry a bag. Upper-arm room, shoulder shape and the layers underneath all belong in the fit conversation.

What these details tell you

Where marked “Style listing,” retailer details were manually reviewed from official product pages; these are not live size inventories. Numeric boot measurements describe the stated reference size only. A wide calf is separate from a wide shoe. Turn on the availability filter to exclude unconfirmed stock.

These are retailer-published options and measurements. Size labels differ by brand, and a published detail does not establish fit in every dimension.

Look beyond the label

01 / The fit detail

Upper-arm room

Ask for the finished sleeve circumference around the upper arm, in your size. A bust measurement or a “relaxed” description does not establish how much room the sleeve has.

02 / The fit detail

Shoulders and reach

Compare a coat that lets you move comfortably. Shoulder construction and armhole shape affect the feel, so a flat measurement is a starting point for a try-on, not a mobility guarantee.

Sleeves and layers

Check the sleeve measuring method: shoulder seam to cuff and center-back neck to cuff are different distances. Try the coat over your usual winter layers before deciding on the size.

The fitting-room check

Give it a little real life.

  1. Button or zip the coat over the layers you plan to wear.
  2. Reach both arms forward as if holding a steering wheel.
  3. Bend your elbows and check for pulling through the upper sleeves and back.

A question to take with you

Ask for the missing detail.

Can you measure the finished upper-sleeve circumference, shoulder width and sleeve length in my size, and tell me how you took those measurements?

You can use this when contacting a retailer. A body size chart and a finished product measurement answer different questions.
